When starting on a healing journey, it is very normal to want to do ALLLLL the things. OR, maybe you have NO clue what the things are or where to even start. My suggestion…..look within.
We are out of touch!
We have become so incredibly OUT OF TOUCH with things. What happened?!? This includes with ourselves. Yep, I said it! You are out of touch with yourself! But, it’s not completely your fault. I mean, we live in this world where being “busy” (don’t get me started on this one!), is the norm…it’s prided. We are multi-tasking EVERYTHING…again, a prided norm. In the mix of all this we have forgotten about ourselves, taking care of ourselves….LISTENING TO OURSELVES!
Think about it. You are going about your “busy” day and you get a headache….what do you do? You take a pain reliever and carry on with your day as best you can. What about that lunch meeting where you get heartburn…you take an antacid and keep on going. Your hormones are out of whack, and your monthly cycle has you down every month. So, you have your doc put you on the pill to “help” your hormones. You never stop to think about what your body is telling you. You are not paying attention to the signals…the warning lights. You mask it, cover it up, and push it aside to keep on living your “busy” life.
I get it.
I’m NOT here to point fingers or scold you. I get it. I was there. I did all these things and more to mask the symptoms….the signals my body was sending me for help. Then, the day came when I just couldn’t do that anymore. I knew I needed to change things. So, where did I start? What did I do? I looked within. I started to pay attention to my body. I listened to my body. And, I kept track of my findings.
When I got a headache, I thought about the whys. Why was my body sending this signal of a headache? Where was I feeling the headache? What had I eaten? Did I drink enough water? What day was I on in my cycle? What is the weather like?
Over time, listening in became easier. (And…I am still learning!) I started to recognize what the headache meant…what I needed…what my body needed, to help with that headache. What also helped me with this was keeping a journal. Keeping track of those findings. This allowed me to look back and recognize any patterns or things that stood out. One thing journaling helped with was recognizing the connection to certain foods and headaches. And bowel movements. I tracked those too!
From there, I started to take other actions….next steps in my healing journey. Taking the time to listen in to my body has been THE pivotal step in my journey. It is what I suggest to all of my clients when starting out, and my suggestion to you. If you are stuck on where to begin in your journey…feel overwhelmed by ALLLL the things out there….keep it SIMPLE, just start listening and paying attention to your body. Then, start a journal and keep track.
You know what to do. You can do this.
You got this! It’s in you. Your body will guide you on this journey. And…if you need a little extra help, I am here for you too! That’s what I do.
